Matt Ruark’s research paper, “Dissolved organic carbon losses from tile drained agroecosystems” appears in the May edition of the Journal of Environmental Quality. This research quantifies dissolved organic carbon (DOC) losses from tile drains and evaluates the relationship between drainflow and DOC concentration. DOC is typically underrepresented in landscape level carbon budgets. Results from this research indicate that tile drains can account for a large percentage of watershed level DOC flux.
